South Koreans took to the streets once again on Friday, as the country’s ex-President Park Geun-hye was officially removed from government. Both the supporters of Park and her protestors reacted with anger and joy.

The majority of the public mostly expressed relief over the Constitutional Court’s verdict to settle the impeachment of the dishonored leader. A small group of the population fervently protested against the Court’s ruling and two citizens have already died due to injuries.

In an interview with the Korea Herald, Shim Min-sik, a 63-year-old Park supporter, said that he arrived in the streets of Seoul early in the morning because he was worried that the justices might choose the wrong decision. He also said that the Constitutional Court might have already been swayed by the prejudiced prosecutors and media.

The pressure was already obvious even before dawn at the top court in central Seoul when the streets became a battleground for protestors rallying for and against Park. Around 7:50 a.m. the ex-President’s devoted faction started to sing “reject the impeachment” along with various Korean folk songs.
