There are now plenty of musical collaborations in the world of K-pop when compared to previous years. The musical pairings have also become more creative in dealing with styles and genre.
K-pop idols usually get involved with other artists when they hold special performances to celebrate holidays like the Korean Thanksgiving Day “Choseok” or the Lunar New Year's Day called “Seollal”. The musical projects will draw huge audiences whenever two famous groups worked together.
The trend of K-pop collaboration is all about showcasing the musical chemistry of singers. S.M. Entertainment made headway with the trend when the company launched its own digital music distributor called "SM Station" last February. The distributor featured musical partnerships of different musicians and singers from outside the label as cited by the Korea Times.
An example of this trend is when S.M. Entertainment released a duet song titled “Rain” which partnered Starship Entertainment's Soyou along with Baekhyun from the famous boy band EXO. The song became an instant hit online and even topped the K-pop chart in China's QQ Music.
