SINGAPORE - The lawyers’ fees for the City Harvest church trial is now estimated to rise to $5 million more due to its referral to the Court of Appeal in addition to the $10 million estimate from its start in May 2013.

The City Harvest scandal is one of the biggest corruption cases that have erupted in Singapore in recent years. The church was founded by pastor Kong Hee and his wife Sun Ho back in 1989.

Five church leaders along with Kong were convicted with fraud and a High Court appeal ended with a reduced sentence for all six according to the Straits Times.

Senior lawyer Foo Cheow Ming said that five of the defendants who are being represented by lawyers would likely to end up with an additional $1 million in legal fees.
