The New JR East Luxury Sleeper Train Finally Arrives

TOKYO – Passengers can now experience riding the East Japan Railway Co's new luxury sleeper train that will cover Hokkaido and other parts of northeastern Japan.
JR East President Tetsuro Tomita along with train designer Ken Kiyoyuki Okuyama was present at the ceremony celebrating the departure of the champagne-gold-colored train suite Shiki-shima.
The luxury sleeper train departed Ueno Station in Tokyo on Monday morning. The train can carry up to 33 passengers and has tatami mats incorporated into the Shikishima suite room as reported in Japan Today.
Tomita said that the company hopes to breathe new life into rural areas and introduce a new addition to Japan's railway history.
The payment for the tickets range from 740,000 yen ($6,600) up to 950,000 yen ($8,488) per person.
