SEOUL - The South Korean government on Tuesday promised to continue the comprehensive efforts to ease border tensions and renewed its endeavor to urge North Korea to accept a dialogue offer.
Seoul proposed a new dialogue when North Korea fired another intercontinental ballistic missile.
The South Korean government wants to hold Red Cross talks so that the families that were separated by the 1953 Korean War can have a reunion.
A government official said that North Korea is being urged to accept Seoul’s dialogue offer in order to resolve humanitarian issues and improve military tensions as reported in the Korea Herald.
A lot of aging Koreans have already died without meeting their family members on the other side of the border. The problem of divided families is one of the most important humanitarian issues for the North and South.
South Korea offered to open military talks last July 21 in order to improve border relations but Pyongyang did not send a response.
