SINGAPORE - Former and current employees of the public transport company SMRT are now facing charges of cheating, due to the illegal awarding of contracts to two companies worth millions of dollars.

The violation took place from 2007 to 2012, with the contracts amounting to $9.8 million in total.

The three employees who masterminded the contract cheating are former manager Jamalludin Jumari, former assistant engineer Zakaria Mohamed Shariff, and the current line manager Zulkifli Marwi.

According to Shaffiq Idris Alkhatib from the Straits Times, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) recently caught Jamalludin in Malaysia and was returned to Singapore to stand trial. This was done with the cooperation of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

The CPIB reminded company employees that cheating in any form for personal gain will not be tolerated by the government.
