TAIPEI - A lot of beverage shops have forgotten to make announcements regarding the new plastic bag ban, which has left a lot of their customers confused about the new regulation.
Drink vendors along with other businesses in Taiwan are now banned from giving plastic bags to their customers, with the new rule taking effect on January 1. Plastic bags are not totally forbidden since various shops can still sell dual-purpose bags, which can be used for shopping and trash.
Plenty of stores, especially beverage shops, have not received proper instructions about the new plastic ban. The main purpose of the ban is to reduce the plastic bags being given out to customers, but it’s clear that a lot of stores are still telling people to buy plastic bags with every purchase.
In most beverage shops, the staff would ask a customer if they want to buy a plastic bag, without asking them about the new types of bags available.
