SEOUL - In order to direct the modern art scene in Asia, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Korea (MMCA) will increase its efforts to reach a wider audience.

According to Bartomeu Mari, the director of the MMCA, the museum will soon feature new exhibitions of artworks from famous artists from abroad and South Korea. The move is part of the museum’s long-term goal of becoming Asia’s leading venue for the modern art scene.

Internationally acclaimed Korean artists like architect Kim Chung-up, photographer Lee Jung-jin, and painter Rhee Seund-ja are part of the MMCA’s lineup for 2018.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the late Rhee, the museum will feature 50 artworks of the famous painter. The exhibition is called “The Road to the Antipode” and will run from March to July.

Another exhibition will also be featured by the museum, focusing on the work of photographer Lee Jung-jin. The title of the exhibition is “Echo” and it will present bare representations of different landscapes and nature scenes.
