In a recently concluded international test, the primary 4 students in the Lion City have landed second in global rankings.

The test is called the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study, which measures a student’s reading ability. According to the results that were released last month, Singapore also surpassed pupils from other countries when it came to reading online texts.

When it came to the online part of the test which has questions concerning information gathering on the Internet, Singapore students outclassed participants from the United States and 15 other countries.

Amelia Teng from the Straits Times mentioned that it’s the first time that the study included a test that analyzes a student’s ability to process online information. This is critical since the young generation is now heavily dependent on the Internet to gather knowledge.

Around 319,000 students from different countries took part in the literacy test and 6,500 Singaporean students from primary schools participated.

Russia landed on the top spot this year, with Hong Kong placing in third place. Ireland was in fourth and Finland finished in fifth place.
