TOKYO - The Virtual Currency Girls, Japan’s only girl group dedicated to cryptocurrencies, had recently refused to be paid in ordinary cash, choosing to stay true to Bitcoin and other types of virtual money.

Even with the recent cyber theft that resulted in 58 billion yen being stolen from a cryptocurrency exchange, the members of the girl group are still choosing to get paid through a cryptocurrency account. The account of the band was recently frozen due to the trading suspension imposed on the exchange service Coincheck.

Hinano Shirahama, one of the band’s members, said that the manager of their group offered to pay them in Yen, but they decided to wait it out and get their salary through Bitcoin.

The Virtual Currency Girls is a new example of the current craze for cryptocurrencies that has taken over different markets around the world. The pop girl group is distinct from other idol acts due to their costumes that include masks displaying different cryptocurrency symbols like Ethereum, Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Dash.

Fans who want to attend their concerts and buy their merchandise have to pay using digital currency. The group members said that they’re going to continue performing despite the recent incident in Japan involving cryptocurrencies.
